When to call a chimney sweep

• Annual inspections: the NFPA recommends inspecting all chimneys and vents at least once a year
• Visible buildup: a dark, crusty, or sticky deposit inside your flue liner
• Poor draft: smoke drifts back into your living room
• Odors: a strong soot or campfire-like smell, especially in humid weather

How often and how long

Once a year, even with our short Texas burning season - a few dozen winter fires deposit plenty of creosote. A standard fireplace takes about 45 minutes to an hour and a half.
